Impromptu Art
Guidelines
Welcome to IMPROMPTU
ART 2010!
History: Impromptu Art has been a
popular part of the WA/BC state
conventions since 2006 at
Marysville-Pilchuck. Each year we now
offer at least two clay sculpture
sessions, and an open session with
drawing and sketching materials
provided.
Special Event! In 2010 we will offer a
one-time contest: Impromptu Art at the
Beach! Having a stretch of sandy beach,
complete with shells and driftwood, at
our disposal is too good an opportunity
to waste. Delegates who have never had a
chance to make a sandcastle are in for a
treat! We will provide implements and
containers for pre-forming shapes
(towers, etc.) and will demonstrate some
basic techniques for those unfamiliar
with the medium. Students may
participate as individuals, but due to
limited space, we strongly encourage
teamwork. There will be two sessions,
each with room for four teams of one to
four students. The entries will be
photographed, and the winners determined
by popular acclaim in a slide show in
one of the Assemblies. We hope to see
some handsome Roman fortifications,
Greek temples and even sea monsters!
Signing up: In 2010 we have two clay
sculpture sessions, several open
sessions, and two sessions of Impromptu
Art at the Beach. Open sessions are, as
ever, drop-in. Advance registration is
required for both the clay sessions and
beach sessions. In order to participate
in either or both, delegates must check
the appropriate box or boxes on the
convention registration form. Delegates
must then confirm their interest when
checking in at the convention, at which
time specific session assignments will
be made, and waiting lists established.
No materials fee is charged for any of
the sessions.
